The large roof of the Melilli Outlet is a futuristic masterpiece, where the architecture of designer Lorenzo Aiello merges with bold engineering. Two rows of slim steel tubular columns shaped in a “V,” grouped in fours inside the building, along with the tension cables from the external masts, support 24,000 sqm of roof coverage. The main glulam frameworks resting on the inner columns are connected by secondary struts, with continuity joints allowing spans of up to 64 meters. The variable-width bays repeat over a length of approximately 400 meters.
